Historique

1978 : La société mère, Biological Implications of Pathogenicity (BIOP) fut fondée par deux microbiologistes, les docteurs Jacques de Repentigny (Université de Montréal) et Morris Goldner (Université de Toronto). Le statut de société à caractère éducationnel et charitable lui fut octroyé en 1985. Dix-sept symposiums portant sur la pathogénicité des microorganismes ont été organisés par la société BIOP (1).

1997 : La société BIOP a modifié ses objectifs afin de promouvoir et réaliser de la recherche en hygiène publique (santé environnementale et maladies infectieuses). Jusqu’alors, sept symposiums portant sur l’hygiène publique ont été organisés.

1999 : : La société BIOP fut renommée Stanier Society / Société Stanier en l’honneur du célèbre microbiologiste d’origine canadienne, Roger Stanier (2, 3).

2001 : Dans la perspective d’adjoindre de nouveaux objectifs, la Société a été renommée Stanier Institute / Institut Stanier.
